ABSTRACT

Objective@# To explore the pathogenic genes in a Chinese family affected by nonsyndromic tooth agenesis so as to study the pathogenesis of oligodontia.@*Methods @# Hospital ethical approval and informed consent of the patients and family members were obtained. Clinical data of the proband and close family members were collected, peripheral venous blood was collected, and DNA was extracted. Gene sequencing was performed through whole-exome sequencing, and then the screened pathogenic genes were verified by Sanger sequencing. The three-dimensional structure of the mutant proteins was analyzed and compared with the wild-type using bioinformatics tools.@*Results@#The two patients with congenital majority tooth loss in this family were cousins, and there were no other patients with congenital majority tooth loss in the family. Besides congenital multiple tooth loss, the two patients had no obvious hair abnormalities, finger/toe abnormalities, sweating abnormalities or other abnormal manifestations of ectodermal tissue. We found a mutant gene that in this family by carrying out gene sequencing of the patients and their close family members. A novel EDA (ectodysplasin A) missense mutation c.983C>T (p. Pro328Leu) was identified, which changed the encoded amino acid from proline (Pro) to leucine (Leu). Analysis of the mutation site showed that the site was highly conserved, and three-dimensional structure modeling also found that it changed the structure of EDA. @* Conclusion@#A novel EDA missense variant (c.983C>T, p.Pro328Leu) was first identified in a Chinese family with nonsyndromic tooth agenesis, extending the mutation spectrum of the EDA gene.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the effect on facial acupoint temperature between acupuncture at Houxi (SI 3) and Dazhui (GV 14) so as to verify "Houxi (SI 3) communicating the governor vessel" based on the infrared thermal imaging technology.@*METHODS@#Thirty-five healthy subjects (5 cases dropped off) were collected and before-after study in the same subject was adopted. The subjects were successively assigned into a sham-acupuncture group, a Houxi group, a Wangu group and a Dazhui group. Sham-acupuncture at Houxi (SI 3) on the left, acupuncture at Houxi (SI 3) on the left, Wangu (SI 4) on the left and Dazhui (GV 14) were given respectively. One intervention was given and the needles were retained for 30 min in each group. 30 min before and after acupuncture, the infrared thermal images of the face were collected, and the facial temperature was compared among the following 5 acupoints, i.e. Yintang (GV 24+), Suliao (GV 25), Shuigou (GV 26), Duiduan (GV 27) and Chengjiang (CV 24).@*RESULTS@#After acupuncture, the facial temperature at Yintang (GV 24+) and Chengjiang (CV 24) was increased compared before acupuncture in the sham-acupuncture group (P<0.01, P<0.05). The facial temperature at Suliao (GV 25) in the Houxi group was reduced after acupuncture (P<0.05). In the Wangu group, the temperature at Yintang (GV 24+) was increased compared before acupuncture (P<0.01). The facial temperature was increased at Duiduan (GV 27) and Chengjiang (CV 24) compared before acupuncture in the Dazhui group (P<0.01, P<0.05). The differences of facial temperature at Chengjiang (CV 24) and Suliao (GV 25) after acupuncture were larger than before acupuncture in the Houxi group and the Dazhui group (P<0.01). In comparison with the temperature at Suliao (GV 25) of the same group, the differences of facial temperature before and after acupuncture at Yintang (GV 24+), Shuigou (GV 26), Duiduan (GV 27) and Chengjiang (CV 24) were increased in the Houxi group (P<0.01, P<0.05); while, the increase was also obtained at Yintang (GV 24+), Shuigou (GV 26), Duiduan (GV 27) and Chengjiang (CV 24) in the Dazhui group (P<0.05, P<0.01). The difference of facial temperature at Yintang (GV 24+) before and after acupuncture was increased compared with Suliao (GV 25) in the Wangu group (P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#Acupuncture at Houxi (SI 3) generates a similar thermal effect as Dazhui (GV 14). It regulates and dissipates the core temperature to "govern the yang qi of the whole body".

ABSTRACT Introduction: Swimming is a sport that requires mastery of muscle groups, breathing, and cardiopulmonary strengthening, being a complete physical activity. To improve the competitive level of its athletes, making possible better results in competitions is a frequent challenge that demands training analysis and frequent adaptations. Objective: Study the effects of current physical training on the competitive performance of athletes. Methods: Twenty-four volunteer swimmers were selected and equally distributed in two groups. The experimental group performed swimming-specific physical training according to the established training plan, and the control group performed general physical training based mainly on running. There was no difference in the duration or intensity of training between the groups. The experimental period was 8 weeks, three times a week. Results: The experimental group was superior to the control group in terms of optimizing physical function, optimizing special fitness, and improving athletic levels. Conclusion: Special physical training for athletes can improve swimmers' physical function more efficiently, improve their competitiveness and sports efficiency, and reduce sports injuries. RESUMO Introdução: A natação é um esporte que exige domínio dos grupos musculares, respiração e fortalecimento cardiopulmonar, sendo uma atividade física completa. Melhorar o nível competitivo de seus atletas, possibilitando melhores resultados nas competições é um desafio frequente que exige análise de treinamento e para adaptações frequentes. Objetivo: Estudar os efeitos do treinamento físico atual sobre o desempenho competitivo dos esportistas. Métodos: Foram selecionados 24 nadadores voluntários, distribuídos igualmente em dois grupos. O grupo experimental realizou um treinamento físico específico para a natação de acordo com o plano de treinamento estabelecido, e o grupo de controle realizou um treinamento físico geral baseado principalmente na corrida. Não houve diferença em duração ou intensidade do treinamento entre os grupos. O período experimental foi de 8 semanas, três vezes por semana. Resultados: O grupo experimental foi superior ao grupo de controle em termos de otimização da função física, otimização da aptidão física especial e melhoria do nível atlético. Conclusão: O treinamento físico especial para atletas pode melhorar a função física dos nadadores de forma mais eficiente, melhorar seu nível competitivo e eficiência esportiva, além de reduzir lesões esportivas. Nível de evidência II; Estudos terapêuticos - investigação dos resultados do tratamento.


RESUMEN Introducción: La natación es un deporte que exige dominio de los grupos musculares, respiración y fortalecimiento cardiopulmonar, siendo una actividad física completa. Mejorar el nivel competitivo de sus atletas, posibilitando mejores resultados en las competiciones es un desafío frecuente que exige análisis del entrenamiento y para frecuentes adaptaciones. Objetivo: Estudiar los efectos del entrenamiento físico actual sobre el rendimiento competitivo de los atletas. Métodos: 24 nadadores voluntarios fueron seleccionados y distribuidos equitativamente en dos grupos. El grupo experimental realizó un entrenamiento físico específico para natación según el plan de entrenamiento establecido, y el grupo control realizó un entrenamiento físico general basado principalmente en la carrera. No hubo diferencias en la duración ni en la intensidad del entrenamiento entre los grupos. El periodo experimental fue de 8 semanas, tres veces por semana. Resultados: El grupo experimental fue superior al grupo de control en términos de optimización de la función física, optimización de la condición física especial y mejora del nivel atlético. Conclusión: El entrenamiento físico especial para atletas puede mejorar la función física de los nadadores de forma más eficiente, mejorar su nivel competitivo y eficiencia deportiva, y reducir las lesiones deportivas. Nivel de evidencia II; Estudios terapéuticos - investigación de los resultados del tratamiento.

@#Abstract: Objective To establish a rapid detection assay based on fluorescence recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) targeting Necator americanus eggs, and to evaluate its efficacy, providing technical support for rapid detection of Necator americanus in fecal samples. Methods The fluorescence RPA primers and probe were designed based on the cox1 gene of Necator americanus and then screened the optimal combination to develop the assay. The genomic DNA of Necator americanus eggs was diluted to 7 concentration gradients including 100 pg/µL, 10 pg/µL, 1 pg/µL, 100 fg/µL, 10 fg/µL, 1 fg/µL, 0.1 fg/µL, to determine the detection limit of the assay. The specificity of the assay was demonstrated by detected genomic DNA from Schistosoma japonicum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Clonorchis sinensis and Fasciola hepatica. A total of 44 fecal samples were collected and DNA extraction was performed, and the modified Kato-Katz method, semi-nest PCR method, and fluorescent RPA method were simultaneously used for detection to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity. Results The established fluorescence RPA assay can specifically amplify a fragment of 194 bp of the Necator americanus cox1 gene within 20 min, with a detection limit of 10 fg/µL. There was no cross-reactivity with Schistosoma japonicum, Ascaris lumbricoides, Clonorchis sinensis, Fasciola hepatica after specificity validation. In 44 fecal samples, 27 positive samples were detected by the fluorescence RPA assay, and 26 positive samples were detected by both the Kato-Katz and the semi-nested PCR. The fluorescence curve of sample number 1 was slightly higher than the negative control in the later stage of the reaction, but did not show a similar trend to the positive control, and was therefore judged to be a suspected negative sample. Compared with the Kato-Katz method and the semi-nest PCR method, The sensitivity of the fluorescent RPA method were 100.00% and the specificity were 94.44%, and the consistency of the detection results was good (Kappa=0.953>0.75). Conclusions The assay based on the fluorescence RPA is an efficient, sensitive and specific technique for detecting Necator americanus and it can be applied for surveillance and early warning of hookworm infection.

@#As one of the species of soil-transmitted helminths (STH), hookworm infection is widely prevalent in tropical and subtropical developing countries. Hookworm is harmful to human health mainly including anemia, digestive tract symptoms, female infection can also cause menopause, abortion, infection in infants and young children can lead growth retardation. With the development of economy and implementation of mass drug administration strategies, the infection of hookworm in human body has decreased continuously, but there are still a large number of mild infection cases which clinical symptoms are not obvious, easy to cause missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis. Several zoonotic hookworm species can cause large-scale infections in cats, dogs and other animals, so as to increase the risk of human hookworm infection. Therefore, it is important to find a highly sensitive and rapid detection techniques to identify hookworm species. In this paper, the existing detection techniques of hookworm were reviewed and their application were prospected to provide ideas for hookworm detection at present situation.

ABSTRACT

We conducted this study to determine whether cornuside could improve the neurological deficit symptoms of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) rats, as well as determine the potential involvement of CD4+ T lymphocytes, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Altogether, 32 Lewis rats were randomly divided into control, EAE, EAE/prednisolone, and EAE/cornuside, wherein their neurological function was assessed every day. CD4+ T lymphocyte recruitment into the spinal cord (SC) was evaluated using immunohistochemistry. The VCAM-1, ICAM-1 and TNF-α mRNA expressions in the SC were determined by real-time quantitative PCR, and the VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 proteins were determined by western blotting. Compared to the control group, the EAE group rats with neurological deficits had enhanced CD4+ T lymphocyte infiltration and higher expression levels of VCAM-1, ICAM-1, and TNF-α in the SC. Meanwhile, compared with the EAE group, the EAE/cornuside and EAE/prednisolone groups had lower neurological scores, less CD4+ T lymphocyte infiltrations, and lower expression levels of VCAM-1, ICAM-1, and TNF-α in the SC. Thus, cornuside ameliorated EAE, which could be owed to the inhibition of CD4+ T lymphocyte recruitment and VCAM-1, ICAM-1, and TNF-α expressions in the SC

Objective@#To analyze the overall treatment effects in terms of the amount of uprighting with changes in the three-dimensional positions of the mandibular posterior teeth after applying the biocreative reverse curve (BRC) system. @*Methods@#Thirty-four patients (mean age, 20.5 ± 8.56 years) were treated using the BRC system (mean period, 8.17 ± 2.19 months). Cone-beam computed tomography was performed before treatment and after treatment with the BRC system. The three-dimensional movement of each tooth was analyzed in the coordinate system at points on the crown and root apex. A paired t-test was used to analyze the treatment effects of the BRC system. @*Results@#The application of the BRC system spanning from the first premolar to the second molar resulted not only in buccal and distal uprighting, but also in increased buccal and distal tipping of the teeth. The premolars and the first molar were extruded, and the second molar was intruded. @*Conclusions@#When the BRC system is applied, simultaneous distal and buccal uprighting of the premolars and molars can be achieved bilaterally using a temporary skeletal anchorage device without unnecessary movement of the anterior teeth.

Abstract Introduction: Congenital piriform sinus fistula is a relatively rare type of disease in clinical practice, most occurring during childhood, but doctors have insufficient knowledge regarding this disease, easily misdiagnosing it. Objectives: This study aimed to identify the characteristics of deep neck abscess due to congenital piriform sinus fistula in children. Methods: We performed a retrospective study of 21 cases from January 2016 to August 2018 in our hospital. The onset age, clinical characteristics, auxiliary examination and clinical treatment of the patients was summarized to analyze the diagnosis, treatment characteristics and prognosis. Results: Children from 11 days to 12 years-old were enrolled, with an average age of 3.5 years. Twenty patients had left congenital piriform sinus fistula and 1 had right congenital piriform sinus fistula. Cervical enhanced computed tomography imaging showed gas-liquid equilibrium or air-shadow in the abscesses in 18 cases, and neck ultrasound demonstrated gas echo in the thyroid region in 10 cases. All patients underwent low temperature plasma to seal the internal fistula and returned to the hospital for electronic laryngoscope and neck ultrasound examination at 3 months, 6 months and 1 year after the surgery. No recurrence occurred in any patient. Conclusion: Congenital piriform sinus fistula is an important cause of deep neck abscess in children. The presence of purulent gas-liquid equilibrium or air shadow in cervical-enhanced computed tomography or ultrasound suggests a high possibility of the presence of an internal fistula, and endoscopic low temperature ablation can be done at the same time as the diagnostic endoscopy.


Resumo Introdução: A fístula congênita do seio piriforme é uma doença relativamente rara na prática clínica; a maioria se manifesta na infância; entretanto, os médicos geralmente têm conhecimento insuficiente sobre essa condição clínica e seu diagnóstico é facilmente feito de forma errônea. Objetivo: Identificar as características do abscesso cervical profundo devido à fístula congênita de seio piriforme em crianças. Método: Estudo retrospectivo de 21 casos de janeiro de 2016 a agosto de 2018 em nosso hospital. Idade de início, características clínicas, exames auxiliares e tratamento clínico dos pacientes foram resumidos para analisar o diagnóstico, as características do tratamento e o prognóstico. Resultados: Foram incluídas crianças de 11 dias a 12 anos, com média de 3,5 anos. Vinte pacientes tinham fístula congênita de seio piriforme no lado esquerdo e um no lado direito; a tomografia computadorizada cervical com contraste mostrava distribuição líquido-gasosa ou sombra aérea nos abscessos em 18 casos. O ultrassom cervical demonstrou eco gasoso na região da tireoide em 10 casos. Todos os pacientes foram submetidos a plasma de baixa temperatura para queimar a fístula interna e retornaram ao hospital para exame com laringoscópio eletrônico e ultrassonografia cervical aos 3 meses, 6 meses e um ano após a cirurgia. Não houve recorrências. Conclusão: A fístula congênita de seio piriforme é uma causa importante de abscesso cervical profundo em crianças. A presença de conteúdo líquido-gasoso purulento ou sombra gasosa na tomografia computadorizada ou no ultrassom cervical sugere uma alta possibilidade da presença de uma fístula interna e a ablação endoscópica a baixa temperatura pode ser feita ao mesmo tempo que a endoscopia diagnóstica.

Objective@#To study the diagnostic accuracy and the distance between the root of maxillary posterior tooth and the maxillary sinus using panoramic radiography and cone beam computer tomography; to provide basic information for clinicians to treat diseases in the maxillary posterior region. @* Methods@#Eighty patients were included in this study. A total of 671 specimens were measured for the distance between the root tip and the maxillary sinus floor in both imaging modalities.@*Results @#The roots that did not contact the sinus floor or contacted but did not project into the sinus cavity showed an agreement of 82% and 70% when using panoramic radiography. Forty-eight percent of the roots that projected into the sinus cavity in panoramic radiography showed protrusion into the sinus with cone beam computer tomography (CBCT). For panoramic radiography and CBCT showing root projections into the sinus cavity, the average distances were 2.19 ± 1.82 mm and 1.47 ± 1.01 mm, respectively. There was a significant difference between the two values (P < 0.05).@*Conclusion@# Panoramic radiography is more accurate when roots of maxillary posterior teeth do not contact the sinus floor or contact it. However, it has a lower accuracy rate when the tooth roots protrude into the sinus.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the association between serum levels of osteopontin (OPN) and systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP) in healthy men following acute high altitude exposure. Methods: According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, this observational study included 94 male subjects (aged from 18 to 30 years, dwelling in lowland<500 m) who ascended to Litang (4 100 m) from Chongqing (400 m) by bus with a stair-like journey within 7 days in June 2013. Data including basic information, OPN, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) and echocardiographic derived sPAP were collected within 48 hours before ascent and within 2-7 hours after arrival. Accordingly, subjects were divided into 3 groups based on the tertiles of sPAP after acute high altitude exposure: low sPAP group (26.8-32.3 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa)) (n=31), middle sPAP group (32.4-37.4 mmHg) (n=32) and high sPAP group (37.5-55.6 mmHg) (n=31). Associations of serum OPN and SOD levels with sPAP were analysed by univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis. Results: After acute high altitude exposure, the levels of sPAP were significantly increased (P<0.001). There were no differences in age, height, weight, body mass index, percent of Han nationality and smoking among 3 subgroups. However, following acute high altitude exposure, the levels of heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure elevated (all P<0.05), whereas the levels of oxygen saturation were reduced in the total subjects and all subgroups (all P<0.05). Moreover, systolic blood pressure of subjects in the high sPAP group was higher than that in low and middle sPAP groups (both P<0.05), and diastolic blood pressure of subjects in high sPAP group was higher than that in low sPAP group (P<0.05). The serum levels of OPN were increased in total cohort(27.9 (22.5,34.0) μg/L vs. 25.6 (18.4, 33.1) μg/L, P<0.05), and high sPAP group (P<0.05), whereas no differences were found in serum SOD and MDA levels among groups. Furthermore, the serum level of OPN in high sPAP group was higher than that in low sPAP group at high altitude (P<0.05), and there was a trend for decline in SOD level with increasing sPAP (P>0.05). Results from univariable linear regression analysis showed that the serum levels of OPN (r=0.32, P=0.002) and SOD (r=-0.22,P=0.032) were linearly correlated with sPAP in total cohort after high altitude exposure. Multivariate regression analysis showed that the serum levels of OPN(β=0.310,P=0.002) and SOD (β=-0.199,P=0.043) were independently associated with the levels of sPAP at high altitude. Conclusion: After acute high altitude exposure, the serum level of OPN is positively associated with sPAP, suggesting that OPN may be a novel bio-marker for predicting the increase of pulmonary pressure in response to acute high altitude exposure.

@#[Abstract] Objective: To investigate the expression of chemokine-like factor-like MARVEL transmembrane domain-containing family member 6 (CMTM6) in breast cancer tissues and its correlation with clinicopathological features and prognosis of patients. Methods:Atotal of 136 breast cancer tissue chips (purchased from Superchip Company), including 42 pairs of matched cancer and paracancerous tissues, were used for this study. The expression level of CMTM6 in cancer and paracancerous tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry. The comparison of CMTM6 expression between breast cancer and paracancerous tissues was conducted by paired χ2 test. The relationship between CMTM6 expression in breast cancer tissues and the clinicopathological characteristics of patients was analyzed by χ2 test. Kaplan-Meier and Log rank test analyses were used to analyze the relationship between CMTM6 expression and the survival of patients, and Cox model was used to evaluate the effect of different indicators on the prognosis of patients. Results: The expression of CMTM6 in breast cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in paracancerous tissues (P<0.01). The expression of CMTM6 was correlated with pathological type of breast cancer and HER2 positivity (P<0.05). The survival time of patients in CMTM6 high expression group was significantly shorter than that of patients in CMTM6 low expression group (P<0.05). Pathological type (HR=10.374, 95%CI: 3.529-30.497, P<0.01), TNM stage (HR=4.599, 95%CI: 1.784-11.856, P<0.01), triple-negative breast cancer (HR=3.370, 95%CI: 1.055-10.761, P<0.05) and high expression of CMTM6 (HR=0.195, 95%CI: 0.073-0.518, P<0.01) were independent risk factors for prognosis of breast cancer patients. Conclusion: CMTM6 is highly expressed in breast cancer tissues, which can be used as a risk factor for prognosis evaluation of breast cancer patients.

ABSTRACT

@#Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is a cutting-edge method for the biological effects of ultrasound combined with sound-sensitive agents. In recent years, SDT has been a concern of experts and scholars in the oral field, and a series of experimental studies has been carried out. We will introduce the progress of SDT in the field of stomatology from three aspects: the therapeutic mechanism of SDT, the application of SDT in the oral field, and the current situation and future of SDT in the treatment of oral diseases. It is currently believed that singlet oxygen theory, cavitation effects, and induction of apoptosis are the main therapeutic mechanisms. The research of SDT on oral disease prevention mainly focuses on oral tumors (especially squamous cell carcinoma and osteosarcoma) and infectious diseases (such as periodontitis, maxillofacial infection, and oral mucosal disease). Although the current research is still in the experimental stage, with the continuous exploration of sonosensitizers and nanotechnology, SDT will provide great help for the clinical prevention and treatment of oral diseases in the future.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To explore determinants of childhood trauma among college students with left-behind experience, and to provide a reference for effective intervention among students with left-behind experience.@*Methods@#A total of 2 468 students selected from 5 universities and 2 higher vocational colleges in tianjin by stratified cluster sampling method were investigated by self-compiled questionnaire and childhood trauma questionnaire.@*Results@#The scores in emotional abuse, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, physical neglect and childhood trauma of students with left-behind experience were significantly higher than those without left-behind experience(t=3.01,3.13,3.24,2.27,3.60,P<0.05);parental separation times and the frequency of parental return had significant interaction effect on the total score of childhood trauma of students with left-behind experience (F=2.37, P<0.05);the gender had a significant major effect on the total score of childhood trauma of students with left-behind experience under the interaction with the place of origin, age at first separation,the cumulative time of leftbehind experiences and the frequency of parents contacting (F=4.49,5.23,5.93,5.11,P<0.05);the age of subjects when parents going out under the interaction with the place of origin, the gender, if only-child,parental separation times and the frequency of parental return;as well as the frequency of parents contacting under the interaction with the place of origin,the household registration, the gender, if only-child and the cumulative time of left-behind experiences also had significantly main effect(F=3.88,4.25,3.32,2.86,3.45;3.82,4.02,2.64,3.29,P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#It is necessary to attach great importance to demographic and context information regarding left-behind experiences,which lead to more specific and effective prevention and intervention strategy for individual with left-behind experiences.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To explore the possibility of the Smile Lite MDP (Smile Lite Mobile Dental Photograph) portable dental photography system applying in anterior teeth aesthetic photography, and to provide the chance to simplify aesthetic photography process and facilitate communication among patients, dentists and dental technitians.@*METHODS@#The Smile Lite MDP photography system combined with the smartphone were used to photograph the front occlusal phase photos of anterior teeth. The photographic conditions including the color temperature parameter, the Smile Lite MDP light position and the intensity settings were explored. The best photographic conditions were chosen by blind evaluation within experienced dentists and technicians through the method of the visual analogue scale/score (VAS) evaluation, which went through statistical analysis to figure out the optimum photograghic conditions. Smile Lite MDP photography system was used to photograph the front occlusal phase photos of anterior teeth under the optimum parameter by different magnifications. The width/height ratio of the central incisor and the front width ratio of the upper anterior teeth in those photos were measured and calculated respectively. The accuracy of the anterior teeth photos taken by Smile Lite MDP photography system was analyzed based on the photographs taken by digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera.@*RESULTS@#The optimum color temperature parameter of Smile Lite MDP portable camera system was 5 000 K, the optimum magnification was 4 times, the best light position was the side lights of Smile Lite MDP, the optimum intensity of lights was 2 grades. Photos taken by the optimum parameters won the highest score during the VAS evaluation and the result of statistical analysis had significant difference compared with other groups (P<0.05). When comparing the photos of the upper anterior teeth taken by the Smile Lite MDP portable photography system using 4 times magnification or by DSLR using the standard parameters, there was no significant difference neither in the width/hieght ratio of the central incisor nor in the front width ratio of the upper anterior teeth (P>0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#The Smile Lite MDP portable dental photography system applying in anterior teeth aesthetic analysis photography was capable to show the color and shape of anterior teeth in an accurate way by using the right photography parameters. Therefore, Smile Lite MDP portable dental photography system was considered to be a simple and easy photographic tool in clinical work.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the expression characteristics of heparinase (Hpa) and angiogenesis in human carotid atherosclerotic plaques. Methods Fifty-five consecutive patients with atherosclerotic stenosis in internal carotid artery system treated with carotid endarterectomy (atherosclerosis group) at the Department of Neurosurgery,Fuxing Hospital,Capital Medical University from December 2014 to December 2017 were enrolled retrospectively. They were confirmed by imaging methods,such as vascular ultrasound, CT angiography and/or DSA. According to the atherosclerotic histopathological classification method of American Heart Association, the well-defined advanced atherosclerotic plaques (types IV- VI) were screened as carotid atherosclerotic plaque specimens (ra =73). According to the morphological classification criteria,73carotid atherosclerotic plaque specimens were divided into vulnerable plaques (n =42) and metastatic plaques (n =31). Autopsy was performed at the Department of Pathology, Peking University Medical School at the same time,and 15 patients without atherosclerotic lesions were identified as non-atherosclerotic group (15 normal arterial specimens). Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining were used to analyze the expression characteristics of Hpa and neovascularization in carotid atherosclerotic plaque. Results (1) There was no Hpa expression in normal arterial tissue; in the carotid atherosclerotic plaque,the positive expression rate of Hpa was 64.4% (47/73). (2) Compared with the metastatic plaques, the positive expression rate of Hpa in the vulnerable plaques increased (92. 9% [39/42] vs. 25. 8% [8/ 31] ,x∗= 34.968,P<0.01). (3) The expression of neovascularization was positive in carotid atherosclerotic plaques. Compared with the metastatic plaques,the positive expression rate of neovascularization in the vulnerable plaques was higher (95. 2% [40/42] vs. 22. 6% [7/31] # =41. 060,P <0. 01). (4) In carotid atherosclerotic plaques, Hpa and neovascularization expression was mainly located in the fibrous cap and shoulders of the plaques. Conclusions Hpa has a certain role in the progression of advanced atherosclerotic lesions. Hpa and angiogenesis expression in carotid atherosclerotic plaques has a co-regionality.

Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of needling thirteen ghost acupoints for children with autism spectrum disorder. Methods:A total of 90 cases with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) aged between 2 and 6 years were randomly allocated into 2 groups by random number table. The control group (n=45) received routine rehabilitative training, and the treatment group (n=45) received acupuncture at thirteen ghost acupoints plus routine rehabilitative training. The Beijing Gesell developmental (Gesell) scale and autism behavior checklist (ABC) were used to assess the intellectual, language and behavior development before and 3 months after the treatment. Results:After the treatment, the total effective rate in the treatment group was 82.2%, versus 55.6% in the control group, showing a statistical significance (P<0.05). As for the scores of social, emotional and language in Gesell scale, there were significant intra-group differences in the treatment group (allP<0.05), and all the five subscales in the Gesell scale in the treatment group were significantly better than those in the control group (allP<0.05). As for the scores of ABC, there were significant intra-group differences in the treatment group (P<0.05), and the scores in the treatment group were significantly better than those in the control group (allP<0.05). Conclusion: Rehabilitation training plus acupuncture at thirteen ghost acupoints can significantly improve the intellectual, language and abnormal behavior in autism spectrum disorder children.

ABSTRACT

There should be confusion about diagnosis and treatment for multiple segments cervical myelopathy in some respects. The author reviewed the literature and combined with clinical experience, proposed a new classification for cervical myelopathy according to responsibility segment areas, which dividing into single segment,double segments (continues or jumping type), multi-segment (≥ three segments). The responsible segments determination is the premise of diagnosis and also a key to determine surgical decompression segment. Decompression only according to imaging was not desirable, surgical segment should mainly relies on clinical, imaging, electrophysiological and comprehensive analysis to avoid surgery range expansion. Surgical approach and procedures are still the focus and hotspot of cervical myelopathy treatment, and no treatment standards and corresponding guidelines to consult. The author proposes that surgical approach should advocate the individual, and surgical procedure should follow simple instead of complicate, anterior and posterior combined decompression is not necessary in most cases, and anterior and posterior fixation are not need.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the changes of the cardiac hemodynamics after acute high altitude exposure in healthy young males and the relationship with acute mountain sickness(AMS).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Left ventricular function and oxyhemoglobin saturation (SaO2), heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP) were measured in 218 healthy young males before and after high altitude exposure within 24 h respectively. According to the lake louise score criteria, the subjects were divided into two groups: acute mountain sickness group (AMS group) and non acute mountain sickness group (non-AMS group).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>HR, diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), stroke volume (SV), stroke index (SI) cardiac output (CO), cardiac index (CI) were significantly increased upon acute high altitude exposure (P < 0.05). Whereas SaO2 and end-systolic volume (ESV) were significantly decreased (P < 0.05). In addition, HR, systolic blood pressure (SBP) and MAP in AMS group were significantly higher than those in non-AMS group (P < 0.05). But stroke index (SI) and end-diastolic volume (EDV) in AMS group were significantly lower than those in non-AMS group (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Cardiac function in healthy young males upon acute high altitude exposure was enhanced. EDV, HR and SI might become the indexes of predicting the acute mountain sickness in the future.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVES</b>To test the hypothesis that urine N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) is a nearly biomarker for acute kidney injury in patients with acute paraquat poisoning.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Forty-four patients with paraquat intoxication and 40 age and gender-matched healthy control participants were recruited. The urine N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase was determined by spectrophotometric methods.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The urine N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase activities in the patients with paraquat poisoning were higher than the corresponding values in the control participants (P<0.01); The prevalence rate of mortality was significantly higher in subjects with N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase activities ≥25 U/g Cr than in those N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase activities <25 Ulg Cr (34.4% vs 16.7%, P<0.01).</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The urine N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase could be used as an early biomarker for acute kidney injury and predictor of mortality inpatients with acute paraquat intoxication.</p>
